We have recently been looking at how God’s powerful grace can transform our lives, especially our families, in our sermon series on Colossians. The same power of God that raised Jesus to life on Easter Sunday is the same powerful grace that has raised us to new spiritual life (Colossians 3:1 – 4). This regenerating power is now in turn at work on our families. When we came to Colossians 3:18, about how wives are to submit to their husbands in the Lord, we looked at several ways not to submit. In that same spirit, here are 10 things that submission is not:
- Simply or singularly a marriage issue
- Degrading
- Silent
- Fearful
- Joyless
- Stifling
- Dumb
- Weak
- Automatic
- Self-Focused
For an explanation of each of these, see the original article at The Resurgence. From the article:
Whether single or married, submission is a core heart issue revealing one’s dependence upon God.
Amen. In other words, if in your marriage the wife feels degraded, dumb, or any of these other things, you may be doing a lot of things in your marriage but biblical submission is not one of them. May God grant us all the grace to have marriages, families, and personal testimonies that reflect the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
