Tools for A Godly Man

courtesy of handymanstartup

Last Sunday, we had a wonderful Men’s Breakfast with great food & fellowship, and ample opportunity to discuss both the faith – the Christian faith – as well as our faith in Christ.

There were so many passages of Scripture discussed, and too many wonderful things said to capture them all here. Nevertheless, some “tools” that we need as husbands, fathers, and just godly men, are reproduced below.

  1. Men take responsibility under Christ. Lots of men wither under criticism, flee from confrontation, and don’t help their wife or their children, their church or community, face adversity. But godly men take responsibility under Christ. Read this refreshing discussion between men to rise up and serve their wives.
  2. Men use the tool of wisdom, and Christ is our wisdom. Law is eternal and specific, but wisdom needs understanding for different uses, and can be general or specific. Godly men will feed their diet with wisdom. See the “wisdom pyramid” and book below:

  3. Men use the tool of the tongue to bless. It is easy to curse the darkness, to tear down, or to mock. Blessing looks weak, but great faith lays behind it. Fathers can bless their children, the way Job did, and so fulfill our priestly calling in Christ. Download this free PDF: “A Father’s Guide to Blessing His Children” from Truth78.

What tools would you recommend for a godly man?

Be sure to join us for our next Men’s Breakfast on the second Sunday of every month!

Move Out Week 38, 2024

From the email “Men’s Breakfast, Worship Christ, and More!”

Grapes of Wrath
We shy away from anger: it feels impolite. Uncomfortable. We’d prefer it not appear in our Deity.

But the God Who loves & saves us in Christ Jesus is a God of wrath! How do we think about that? The Bible tells us what wrath is, why hearing about it is necessary at Church, how it is an attribute of God, and it should be defended from fake Christianity.

Want to go even deeper? Read Dr. Tasker on this doctrine, or listen to Dr. Duncan preach about this truth.

Q. #103
What does God require in the fourth commandment?
A. First, that the ministry of the gospel and the schools
be maintained 1
and that, especially on the day of rest,
I diligently attend the church of God 2
to hear God’s Word, 3
to use the sacraments, 4
to call publicly upon the LORD, 5
and to give Christian offerings for the poor. 6
Second,
that all the days of my life
I rest from my evil works,
let the LORD work in me through his Holy Spirit,
and so begin in this life
the eternal Sabbath. 7

    Church Closed Aug 15

On August 15th, 2024 the Zion offices will be closed, along with the entire building locked for cleaning. You can still call the Church phone or send a message.

In tandem with our tuckpointing project, our Consistory and Property Committee are diligently working for excellent stewardship of our building. The entire building’s duct works will be sterilized, which requires no entrance for twenty-four hours. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The building will open again on Friday, Aug 16 at 10 a.m. If you need anything in the mean time, please contact us or call the church phone. We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and supportive prayer!
